Meet The Doctor
Dr. Jenna Kuiken grew up in northern Minnesota, in the small town of Aitkin with her parents and two older brothers. It was during her time competing on the high school dance team that sparked her interest in chiropractic care and sports-related injuries. From sustaining her own injuries as an athlete and working closely with her school’s athletic trainer and her father (who’s a chiropractor and her mentor) it was an obvious choice to pursue chiropractic with a focus on sports-related injuries.
Dr. Kuiken graduated from Aitkin High School in 2010 and began her prerequisites at Central Lakes College that next Fall. A short two years later she was accepted to Northwestern Health Sciences University (NWHSU) where she completed her Bachelor of Science degree and Doctorate in Chiropractic degree. During her time at NWHSU, Dr. Kuiken shifted her focus solely from sports-related injuries to studying the Gonstead technique as well. She has spent countless hours attending seminars, club meetings, and shadowing doctors in order to become proficient in the Gonstead technique.
Dr. Kuiken chose to specialize in the Gonstead Technique for its specificity and extensive clinical research. She continues to expand her knowledge through seminars, studying the Gonstead Technique, and working with her mentors in the Gonstead community. Working with such a thorough technique allows Dr. Kuiken to create individualized care for her patients versus a "one-size-fits-all" plan.
The Gonstead Technique
1Visualization
Dr. Kuiken will look at your posture, movement, skin, and muscle tone for subtle changes that can indicate problems.
2Instrumentation
The tool of choice is the Gonstead System is called the Nervoscope. Dr. Kuiken will guide this down your back to help detect any thermal indifferences signifying inflammation and nerve pressure.
3Static Palpation
While the patient sits in a stationary position, Dr. Kuiken will palpate (feel) the patient's spine for any abnormal textures, tenderness, or swelling of the soft tissues.
4Motion Palpation
Just like during static palpation, Dr. Kuiken will be palpating (feeling) your spine while moving it in different directions to see what vertebral segments are restricted in motion.
5X-ray Analysis
Postural x-rays allow Dr. Kuiken to visualize the patient's entire spine and "map out" what areas need attention. X-rays help evaluate posture, vertebral misalignments, joint and disc health, and rule out other pathologies that affect the patient's overall health.
